Nature Inspired Jewelry: a cure for creative block
If you create content or have a creative hobby, you understand the difficulty that often comes with finding inspiration. Sometimes we don’t realize that simply looking around can cure this ailment. Durango, Colorado has inspired all of my jewelry, and because this beautiful town is enthusiastic about utilizing the outdoors, the result is nature inspired jewelry.
Below are a few pieces that are directly inspired from the beautiful mountain town of Durango, Colorado.
Rustic Mountain Pendant
Inspiration for this piece came from the mining background of my family. For more details on where the Great Hope Metalworks name came from, and the mining aspect of my company, visit our story page here.
We are surrounded by mountains in Colorado, and many of them were utilized for the precious metals they held. The gold part of this piece represents the precious metals contained within the mountains. I used patina to create a rustic and gritty feel, similar to mining in the 1880’s.
If you would like to purchase this piece, it can be found at and other Durango Jewelry Store called Jamie’s Fine Jewelry.
Snow Day Pendant
It snows a lot here in Durango. One time it snowed so much my son was walking to elementary school, that was just a few blocks from our house. He was about 6 years old at the time and short for his age. He decided to take a shortcut across the soccer field, but didn’t realize how deep the snow actually was. About halfway through the field he got stuck. By stuck I mean, the kid couldn’t even retrace his steps back to the house. Luckily the janitor of his elementary school was shoveling the snow off the roof and saw him flip flopping in a hole in the snow. As scary as it was, this story ended up being one of the funnier moments of his childhood, and has since inspired me to create an abundance of snowflake themed jewelry.

Copper Flower Domes
If you haven’t already noticed, I love flowers. Flowers are often a topic of nature inspired jewelry. It all started when I was kid. My grandmother had a flower garden to die for. I also found inspiration from trail running and backpacking in Durango, discovering beautiful fields of wildflowers wherever I went.
If you are interested in purchasing these, they are sold out on the website, so contact me here.
Minimalist Bikes
While not directly a natured themed jewelry piece, these babies scream Durango like no other. Durango loves bikes, and there are plenty of incredible mountain and road biking professionals that live in the town, or at least did at one point. A lot of my jewelry ends up with this theme because of the faces and story beyond my website. If you take a peek at my gallery, you will see that it is one of my favorite activities to do with my two children.
If you are ever struggling with a creative block, and can’t seem to figure out what to do next, my suggestion is to take a look around you. What activities do you like to do? What are some things that remind you of a funny story, or a person that was special to you? Think about it and you will be back to your craft in no time.
